ITV’s new lunchtime show, Bling, sees Gok Wan and his team of craftsmen repair and create bespoke treasures for his customers.
In a recent episode, the newly opened jewelry store, located in Exeter’s Guildhall shopping and dining center, welcomed husband and wife Maria and Lee from Exeter.
“We came to the store today to bring some jewelry so we can hopefully make a nice piece of jewelry for my husband – a wedding ring.” Maria revealed.
Husband Lee added, “It will be interesting to see what they can conceive and what they can come up with so that I can remember my wife.”
The couple, who have been married for eight years, revealed that it was also their anniversary the day they visited the Bling store, much to Gok’s excitement.
The host asked what brought the two lovebirds to her store, to which Maria replied: “20 years ago, I had breast cancer. Cured. And then in 2018, unfortunately it is returned.
“I was able to have a mastectomy, so we went ahead and crossed our fingers. But unfortunately, in October 2020, I was told it was stage 4 metastatic.
“We moved on and we decided that for the rest of our lives we’re going to be as fun as possible – as fun as the last eight years have been. We had a fantastic time.”
Maria then explained that her husband had recently suffered an accident at work and had to have his wedding ring forcibly cut off.
The couple revealed a collection of Maria jewelry that they hoped they could melt into a piece for Lee to wear in memory of his wife and their wedding.
One of Maria’s treasures was a gem-adorned cross which she explained was bought for her by her mother as a gift for her 40th birthday. She said she would often wear the piece to the many dinners she and her husband would have.
“So that’s obviously gold,” Gok said. “And there are also diamonds in there. It’s an absolutely beautiful piece.”
He then switched to a necklace the couple had brought along, as well as a gold and diamond ring Lee had bought for his wife when they first met.
Lee, who told the host he would love to make a gold ring with his wife’s treasures, added: “It really blows my mind because every day that I wake up I am so grateful that she’s there, but it also breaks my heart every day to see her suffer from pain and discomfort, and the fact that this will be our last wedding anniversary together.
“We are going to come away with something so magical with so many great memories.
“I would like to incorporate eight diamonds in it, or one diamond for each year of marriage.”
Gok said, “I feel so touched to be a part of this, really. It’s such a great story.
“We are going to make the most amazing ring for you I promise – hand over my heart – and there will be all your love in there, all your stories and all your future too because these eight years will go on forever. . “
It was then that Maria’s treasures were passed on to Bling’s “Mr. Maker”, Kieran Singh, who would design the personalized ring for Lee.
Later in the show, the pair were brought back to the store to be presented with their custom-made, handmade wedding ring.
“I know for a fact that you are going to love this ring because it has so much heart and so much history.”
She explained, “I want him to have something that represents all of us, so I really can’t wait for him to have it from me and make it part of our past and part of our future,” said Maria.
Lee added, “It’s just something that even when Maria isn’t around, she will be there because whatever the ring means will always be with me.
“I have the perfect wife and I want perfect memories.”
Gok then opened a small gift box to reveal Lee’s gorgeous new bespoke gold wedding ring.
Clearly taken aback, Maria exclaimed, “Sounds amazing.” She then placed the ring on her husband’s finger, comparing it to the time they were first married, to which Lee replied, “I want it.”
“Words fail me,” Lee said, fighting back tears. “I can’t thank you enough, I really can’t thank you both enough.
“This is the most amazing piece of jewelry I have ever seen, and it never comes off.”
