September 21 (UPI) – North Carolina State University football fan who lost his wedding ring as he stood before a game received help from an unexpected source: Wolfpack’s basketball coach , Kevin Keatts.
Will Yadusky, of Raleigh, who recently celebrated his 16th wedding anniversary, said he was preparing outside Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh ahead of Saturday’s game when he felt his wedding ring fly off his finger .
“I picked up a molten hot dog,” Yadusky told WTVT-TV. “The moment I realized that, I just waved my hands like crazy and heard that kind of ding-dong-dong freaking out and I realized, ‘Oh, that was my wedding ring.’ “
Yadusky said a nearby group of fans searched for the ring and quickly heard an unexpected voice behind him.
“Someone says, ‘Coach Keatts?’ And I look up and here is the man himself, ”Yadusky said. “And he said to me: ‘What are we looking for?'”
Yadusky said Keatts, who was heading for the game, joined in the search.
“He said to me, ‘You know, I don’t know if we can let you go home without finding this,” Yadusky said. “I was like, ‘Well, I appreciate your worry, really.'”
Yadusky said Keatts gave him the advice that led to the ring being retrieved: “Don’t think of it as linear search – it probably wasn’t straightforward.”
He said the ring ended up a few feet from where it flew off from his hand. Yadusky said he was grateful to Keatts for his help.
“The fact that he took five to ten minutes a day on game day is the part that was really meaningful to me,” said Yadusky. “I am delighted to know that he is in real life as good as he looks on television.”
