Indian Wells (United States), October 8

Less than 24 hours after reporting that his wedding ring and special tennis shoes had been stolen, two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray of Great Britain said on Friday (IST) that he had recovered his prized possessions.

Murray got into trouble with his wife Kim Sears on Thursday (IST) after having his wedding ring and special tennis shoes stolen following a training session at Indian Wells, where he is currently competing in the Indian Wells Masters .

Murray, who is attending Indian Wells for the first time since 2017, posted a video on his Instagram account explaining that he is the “bad books” at home after losing both his wedding ring and his shoes the same night.

But on Friday (IST), the Scotsman reported the successful recovery of the ring and the tennis shoes it was attached to.

“I want to quickly thank all of the posts and the people who shared the story of the shoes and the wedding ring,” Murray said in a selfie video posted to his Instagram account.

“I had to make a few calls today and chat with hotel security and have a little update for everyone …

“Would you believe it… they still absolutely stink but the shoes are back, the wedding ring is back and I’m back in the good books.

According to atptour.com, Murray first reported in a video that he left his tennis shoes to “smash” overnight under a car in his hotel parking lot. They were stolen overnight, and it wasn’t until he was preparing for training that he realized his wedding ring was wrapped in a lace.

This prompted her appeal on Instagram, which played a part in Friday’s happy final chapter.

Earlier Thursday, Murray, 34, wrote in an Instagram story to his fans: “I have a quick story for you that I need a little help with. Basically, last night after dinner here in Indian Wells I got in the car back to the hotel and the car didn’t smell good. I left my tennis shoes in there and it’s 39C so my tennis shoes are sweaty, wet and yeah, smelly.

“So I decided when I got back to the hotel that my shoes needed air, that is, I had to dry them a bit. I don’t have a balcony in my room and didn’t want to leave them in my room as it stinks the room. So, I thought it would be a good idea to leave the shoes under the car to get some air and dry overnight.

To his shock, he could not find the shoes on his return in the morning. He then had to go to a local tennis store and buy a new pair, but got another shock when he realized he had lost his wedding ring as well.

“I was getting ready for my practice and my physiotherapist said to me:” Where is your wedding ring? Basically, I tie my wedding ring to my tennis shoes when I play because I can’t play with it. So yes, my wedding ring was also stolen, so needless to say I’m in the wrong books at home, ”Murray said in the video posted on social media.
